Geoscience Solutions for Sustainable Offshore Wind Development
نویسندگان
چکیده
Low carbon energy infrastructure, such as wind and solar farms, are crucial for reducing greenhouse gas emissions limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C. During 2020, 5.2 GW of offshore capacity went into operation worldwide, taking the total operational 32.5 from 162 windfarms, over 200 new is planned by 2030. To meet net-zero targets, growth generation expected, which raises challenges, including integration natural environment wider system, throughout farm lifecycle. This review examines role geosciences in addressing these challenges; technical sustainability challenges opportunities reviewed, filtered according governance priorities, assessed that geoscience can play providing solutions. We find solutions key roles sustainable development through two broad themes: 1) windfarm infrastructure site conditions, 2) transmission, conversion storage. conclude, we recommend priorities approaches will support contributions wind, ultimately enable development. Recommendations include industry collaboration systems effective data sharing archiving, well further research, education skills.

Offshore aquaculture: Spatial planning principles for sustainable development
Marine aquaculture is expanding into deeper offshore environments in response to growing consumer demand for seafood, improved technology, and limited potential to increase wild fisheries catches. Sustainable development of aquaculture will require quantification and minimization of its impacts on other ocean-based activities and the environment through scientifically informed spatial planning....
متن کاملSHM of Floating Offshore Wind Turbines— Challenges and First Solutions
The paper presents an integrated SHM-system for floater, moorings, tower, nacelle and rotor blades. Its core is based on a multivariate SHM-system for rotor blades with three different measuring techniques accompanied by appropriate signal processing approaches: Acoustic Emission (AE) is used for identification of relative small damages at the whole blade, e.g. bursts of fibres, cracks of bon...
متن کاملSynthetic Aperture Radar for Offshore Wind Resource Assessment and Wind Farm Development in the UK
The UK has an abundant offshore wind resource with offshore wind set to grow rapidly over the coming years. Optimisation of energy production is of the utmost importance given the high installation and maintenance costs of offshore turbines; accurate estimates of wind speed characteristics are critical during the planning process. While operational assessment methods which rely upon in-situ obs...

Iranian offshore oil and gas platforms are mostly located in the Persian Gulf. Technical and environmental challenges resulted from an off-design running condition of processes on a platform are important issues. The weakness of strategies to stop or decrease the amount of greenhouse gas emission production rate in the Persian Gulf; which is intensively increasing, is another matter of concern....
